Abstract
Missionary Go Home: The Integrity of Missionary Movement in Africa
As early 1970s, there has been a call by Africans, Asians, and
Latin Americans church leaders to missionaries to go home. In Africa, this call
was made by All African Conference of Churches in Lusaka.
Whatever mistakes and omissions the missionaries have made, can the continue
relevance of missionary activities in Africa and particularly Nigeria, be truly
denied in the light of the fact that the majority of African leaders, especially
Nigerians, owe whatever they are to God and the missionaries activities?
The purpose of this paper is to have a critical examination of the missionary
activities in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, and why the cry for missionaries
to go home. More importantly, we shall discuss the integrity of missionary
movement and the implication of a halt to missionary movement in Nigeria and all
over the world. We are particularly interested in providing the justification
for continued missionary activities in Africa, particularly Nigeria, and all
over the world in the light of the scripture and globalization.
