Abstract
Religion for Migrants:
The Case of the Netherlands
In the Dutch public debate on migration, the issue of religion has been
underrepresented until now. Nevertheless religion is for most migrants very
important and essential.
In this essay I give first an historical sketch of the religious panorama of
the Netherlands and especially of the religions of the migrants. From this, I
will distinguish different aspects and models of migrant religion. Finally, I
want to design a new type of theology and pastoral approach for the migrants and
the existing institutions of churches in the Netherlands.
